Heather Hyerin Im’s Spring rounds has been selected to participate in the Punto y Raya Festival 2021 Competition. The selection process has been delightful and yet, quite hard, with over 750 eligible films from 57 countries. The seventh edition of Punto y Raya Festival will take place November 25th-28th 2021 at the Austrian FilmMuseum, Blickle Kino im Belvedere 21 and Künstlerhaus in Vienna, Austria. 

Based on Stravinsky’s ‘The rite of Spring’, Im produced this work as a reinterpretation through abstract animation. The idea for the project came in spring 2020, while she was agonising over the human frailty facing the Corona virus.We often forget our essential, more primitive values in this era of cutting edge Technology and the fast development of modern society. So she tried to link all this with the imagery suggested by Stravinsky’s music.She didn’t use any graphic vector images, but paper cut-outs and other materials, searching for an experimental way to create a piece analogically. The process involves the analysis of the musical piece itself as well as the mood suggested by the original Spring, which she emphasised using the colour red.
