Heather (Hyerin) Im
Heather (Hyerin) Im is a creative technologist and designer whose practice explores how emerging technologies such as Generative AI, AR, and HCI reshape human perception, cultural expression, and artistic practice. Rooted in both technical inquiry and critical speculation, her work embraces ambiguity, miscommunication, and cultural dissonance as generative materials for design, art, and research.
She has over three years of experience as a UX designer and researcher at Niantic and Niantic Spatial, where she worked on AR developer UX, geospatial AI, and mobile AR game experiences including Pokémon GO and Peridot. Currently, she is a UX researcher at YouTube Rapid Research team, examining global user experiences across the YouTube platform.
Alongside her industry work, Heather maintains an active artistic and curatorial practice. She has exhibited, curated, and presented at international venues such as Daelim Museum, COEX, and Dead End Gallery Amsterdam (the world’s first AI gallery). Her collaborations with Korean musicians include creating AI-driven concert visuals and music video content, blending machine creativity with performance, sound, and cinematic arts.
Heather is also an AI educator and advocate for AI literacy. She has taught the university course “AI and Humanity 1&2“ at Kookmin University for two years, led public lectures across online platforms, and authored A Comprehensive Introduction to Image-Generating AI (Hanbit Media, 2024), which ranked among Korea’s top science and technology titles.
She holds a B.F.A. in Design from Ewha Womans University and an M.S. in Industrial Design from KAIST.
